These:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Turned land into a <strong>taxable property<\/strong>, not sacred inheritance<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Forced farmers to <strong>pay fixed taxes<\/strong>, regardless of yield or famine<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Created <strong>zamindars<\/strong> as tax collectors \u2014 middlemen who often exploited the kisans<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Prioritized <strong>revenue over welfare<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The result?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Farmers went from being <strong>owners<\/strong> to <strong>debtors<\/strong> on their own land.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Even in years of drought, the tax had to be paid \u2014 or land was seized.<br \/>This led to massive <strong>indebtedness, landlessness, and famines<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>\ud83d\uded1 Cash Crops Over Community Crops<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The British didn\u2019t care what India needed.
