As they traveled through the dark forest, Betal started telling another story.<\/p>\r\n<hr data-start=\"464\" data-end=\"467\" \/>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"469\" data-end=\"495\">The Beauty of Manimala<\/h3>\r\n<p data-start=\"497\" data-end=\"594\">Long ago, in the kingdom of Malaidhesh, there ruled a learned and courageous king named Samarjit.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"596\" data-end=\"662\">One day, a courtier named Krishnanan approached the king and said,<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"664\" data-end=\"885\">\u201cMaharaj, there is a wealthy businessman named Chandramani in our kingdom. He has a daughter named Manimala who is renowned for her extraordinary beauty and intelligence. I believe she would make a perfect queen for you.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"887\" data-end=\"1074\">Intrigued by the suggestion, King Samarjit summoned his trusted maids and instructed them to visit Manimala and determine whether she would be suitable to become the queen of the kingdom.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"1076\" data-end=\"1201\">The maids went to Chandramani\u2019s house and met Manimala. Upon seeing her, they were astonished by her beauty and intelligence.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"1203\" data-end=\"1339\">However, they soon became concerned. They feared that such extraordinary beauty might distract the king from his royal responsibilities.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"1341\" data-end=\"1396\">Because of this fear, they decided to mislead the king.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"1398\" data-end=\"1442\">When they returned to the palace, they said,<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"1444\" data-end=\"1560\">\u201cMaharaj, we met Manimala and spoke with her, but she does not appear suitable to become the queen of this kingdom.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"1562\" data-end=\"1652\">Trusting the judgment of his maids, King Samarjit abandoned the idea of marrying Manimala.<\/p>\r\n<hr data-start=\"1654\" data-end=\"1657\" \/>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"1659\" data-end=\"1687\">The Marriage of Manimala<\/h3>\r\n<p data-start=\"1689\" data-end=\"1790\">Not long afterward, Chandramani arranged Manimala\u2019s marriage to a noble courtier named Krishna Anand.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"1792\" data-end=\"1847\">The wedding was celebrated with great joy and grandeur.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"1849\" data-end=\"1991\">Some time later, King Samarjit happened to pass by the house of Krishna Anand. As he looked up, he noticed a young woman standing on the roof.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"1993\" data-end=\"2049\">Her beauty was so striking that the king was captivated.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"2051\" data-end=\"2118\">He immediately turned to his minister and asked about her identity.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"2120\" data-end=\"2284\">\u201cThat is Manimala,\u201d the minister replied. \u201cShe is the wife of your courtier Krishna Anand. She is the same woman whom you had once considered as a potential queen.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"2286\" data-end=\"2326\">Hearing this, King Samarjit was shocked.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"2328\" data-end=\"2398\">He immediately summoned the maids who had visited Chandramani\u2019s house.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"2400\" data-end=\"2557\">\u201cYou told me that Manimala was not suitable to become my queen,\u201d he said angrily. \u201cBut today I have seen her beauty with my own eyes. Why did you lie to me?\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"2559\" data-end=\"2600\">Trembling with fear, the maids confessed,<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"2602\" data-end=\"2820\">\u201cMaharaj, please forgive us. We feared that her beauty might distract you from ruling the kingdom effectively. If she gained influence over you, it might disrupt the administration of the kingdom. That is why we lied.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<hr data-start=\"2822\" data-end=\"2825\" \/>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"2827\" data-end=\"2849\">The King\u2019s Dilemma<\/h3>\r\n<p data-start=\"2851\" data-end=\"2936\">At that moment, Krishna Anand entered the court and folded his hands before the king.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"2938\" data-end=\"3138\">\u201cMaharaj,\u201d he said respectfully, \u201cI have heard everything that has been said. As your loyal servant, I am ready to offer my wife, Manimala, to you. You deserve the best, and she is yours if you wish.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"3140\" data-end=\"3189\">King Samarjit was deeply offended by these words.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"3191\" data-end=\"3348\">\u201cKrishna Anand, how dare you insult me in this manner?\u201d he exclaimed. \u201cI would never cast my eyes upon another man\u2019s wife. Such an act would be a grave sin.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"3350\" data-end=\"3430\">Angered by the entire situation, King Samarjit ordered that the maids be hanged.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"3432\" data-end=\"3568\">\u201cHad it not been for their deceit,\u201d he declared, \u201cManimala would have become my queen, and the palace would have shone with her beauty.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<hr data-start=\"3570\" data-end=\"3573\" \/>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"3575\" data-end=\"3595\">Betal\u2019s Question<\/h3>\r\n<p data-start=\"3597\" data-end=\"3668\">After finishing the story, Betal turned to King Vikramaditya and asked,<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"3670\" data-end=\"3872\">\u201cTell me, O King, where does the fault truly lie? Was it the maids\u2019 fault for lying, or was King Samarjit at fault for punishing them unjustly? If you do not answer, your head will shatter into pieces.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<hr data-start=\"3874\" data-end=\"3877\" \/>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"3879\" data-end=\"3909\">King Vikramaditya\u2019s Answer<\/h3>\r\n<p data-start=\"3911\" data-end=\"3974\">After remaining silent for a moment, King Vikramaditya replied,<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"3976\" data-end=\"4381\">\u201cThe fault lies with King Samarjit. Although the maids acted wrongly by lying, their actions were driven by loyalty and concern for the kingdom. However, King Samarjit committed a greater mistake by allowing anger to control his judgment. By ordering their execution, he crossed the boundaries of justice. A true king must rule with wisdom and fairness, not allow personal frustration to lead to cruelty.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<hr data-start=\"4383\" data-end=\"4386\" \/>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"4388\" data-end=\"4408\">Betal\u2019s Response<\/h3>\r\n<p data-start=\"4410\" data-end=\"4448\">Hearing the king\u2019s answer, Betal said,<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"4450\" data-end=\"4627\">\u201cYou have given the correct answer, Vikram. You are indeed a wise and just king. But as always, you have spoken despite my warning. Therefore, I must return to the Peepal tree.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"4629\" data-end=\"4725\">With those words, Betal slipped from Vikramaditya\u2019s shoulders and disappeared into the darkness.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"4727\" data-end=\"4910\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Yet King Vikramaditya did not waver.
