On hearing Betal’s warning, when King Vikramaditya reached the hermit’s ashram with Betal
on his shoulders, he was meditating. Betal said softly, Vikram, I have told you earlier also that
he is a wicked hermit. He wants to sacri ce you to increase his powers. He will sacri ce you
in front of the havan kund. He will ask you to bow your head but you should not bow your
head, if you do so, he will cut o your head and o er it as a sacri ce. When that monk asks
you to do so, then tell him to do it rst. On hearing all this, King Vikram Didi remembered
Betaal’s warning and he said to him earlier, O monk Maharaj, I am a arrogant king, so I have
truly done a miracle. May you live a long life. After this, that monk cut Betaal’s body into
pieces and threw it in the havan kun and you are a saintly person, youTeach me how to do
this pranam. Now that sadhu got caught in his own trap. As soon as he fell, the king took out
his sword and cut o his head. In the terrifying silence, even the sound of a needle prick
could be heard. Now there was no one except the dead body of the sadhu and the king.
Then suddenly the king heard someone laughing. It was Betal who was standing at a little
distance. But now he was looking a little di erent. Now Betal was standing in front of King
Vikramaditya in the form of a handsome young man. He could not believe his eyes. He
asked, are you really Betal? Betal laughed and said, yes I am Betal. You have done me a
great favor by killing the sadhu. Then the king asked him, why is your name Betal? Betal said,
this sadhu was my elder brother. He had made me a ghost with his tantric powers. You were
his next victim. He had played this game to increase his powers. He wanted to praise you
and adopt all your abilities and qualities. He wanted to ask his God for his blessings. If you
had not killed him, he would have de nitely succeeded in his intention today.
He further said, Vikram, you had to face a lot of trouble because of me but during this time
you learnt to be patient, you did justice to all my questions without losing your patience, you
are an extraordinary king, I give you a boon that you will be known as the best among all the
Vidyadhars, you and your legacy will be known all over the world, the people will always
praise your name, you are a king who wants the welfare of the people, hence the people will
also consider you as their father, as long as the sun and the moon exist in the sky, the
stories of your bravery, wisdom, justice and knowledge will be told, people will name their
children after you, your name will be written in golden letters on the pages of history.
